Gettysburg Field Trip
What a special day it was providing 5th grade students from two DC public elementary schools an opportunity to venture outside of the city to Gettysburg. These kids in particular surely deserved it, and I'm so glad I was able to share this experience with them.
I look forward to more of these trips - they are a great group of kids!

Just Deserts?
Came home last night around 10:45pm to read a headline stating that Osama bin Laden was dead. Could it really be? I was shocked, but also in disbelief and frantically searched for further information.
I turned on the news, and there it was. Without hesitation, I hopped on my bike with full speed of adrenalin and joined over 3,000 strangers in front of the White House - some celebrating, and others, like me, who didn't know quite what to do but wanting to be with others. I’ll never forget meeting a father who drove from Springfield, VA to DC that night (just like many others) as soon as he heard the news. He held his son’s photo in his arms, who he lossed in the war, and cheered on behalf of his son's fight.
I rode home on the streets filled with honking cars and passerby’s waving the American flag. It reminded me of the night when we gladly learned that Obama won the Presidential race. I came home to the T.V. still on the news station, and watched until almost 3 o’clock in the morning.
Wow. I'll never forget being a part of these historical events. Thanks, DC.
